Bicycle
Solidarity Day
2004
(Chattanooga,
TN)—The Chattanooga Urban Area Bicycle Task Force is proud to
announce its Bike2Work finale for 2004 as we celebrate Bicycle
Solidarity Day in Chattanooga. In partnership with the
Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency, the
Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department and the Chattanooga
Bicycle Club, the Bicycle Solidarity Award for 2004 will be
presented to MARS Interactive and their Martians-on-Wheels road
cycling team. This award recognizes significant achievement in the
advancement of bicycling for transportation, recreation and
wellness in Chattanooga, a League of American Bicyclists designated
Bicycle Friendly Community. With active support from
Mayor Bob Corker, the City Council, and surrounding municipal
governments, bicycling in Chattanooga and the region continues to
garner national interest and represents a cornerstone of the
Outdoor Chattanooga initiative. Rob Healy, Outdoor
Chattanooga’s new Executive Director, will be participating
in Bike2Work activities this Friday.
Join us between 7:30
AM and 9:00 AM at Miller Park for complimentary breakfast provided
by Greyfriars Coffee, SmoothieKing and Pilates at Barking
Legs. Ride on your own or join one of our groups leaving from
Coolidge Park (7:00 AM), Owen Cyclery (6:45 AM), or the
Incline Railway parking lot (7:00 AM).
CARTA will be
supporting Bike2Work with their Rack & Ride Program.
Every CARTA mainline and neighborhood route bus is equipped to
carry two bicycles, so it’s easy to extend your bike range
throughout Chattanooga. Come by Miller Park for a hands-on
demonstration of how easy it is to load your bike! Visit
www.carta-bus.org for complete details on routes and
schedules.
A related event will
take place that day between 12:00 noon and 1:00 PM at the
Waterhouse Pavilion in Miller Plaza as information will be
available about bicycle planning, safety and education in our
community. Chattanooga Bicycle Club will be accepting
registrations for the Sequatchie Valley Century ride which occurs
on Saturday, October 2nd, with fully supported rides of
25, 62 and 100 miles. And finally, you may join fellow
cyclists for an evening journey through downtown Chattanooga
departing from the north parking lot of Finley Stadium at 7:00 PM,
Friday, October 1st, with a planned stop to enjoy
the Nightfall concert at Miller Plaza. Don’t forget to
bring your lights and helmet.
The Chattanooga
Urban Area Bicycle Task Force promotes bicycling for fun, fitness
and transportation, and works through advocacy and education for a
bicycle friendly community. For more information or to
